Scotsman Billy Mackenzie has highlighted the importance of his moto two victory at Broadford’s fourth round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals, sealing him his third podium of the 2013 season.
Mackenzie picked up CDR Yamaha’s first moto win of the year with 3-1 finishes at the historic former GP venue, resulting in second overall for the weekend.
It was a vital performance from Mackenzie to position himself back in title contention following a horror weekend at Wonthaggi two weeks prior, and he’s happy to reward the powerhouse CDR team with the moto win.
“Today was really important to me and the team to get back on track and bounce back from the terrible day at Wonthaggi,” Mackenzie said.
“I felt really good in the first moto and thought I could challenge for the lead towards the end of the race, but I clipped the back of Jake Moss and fell over just past the pit board area.
“Moto two was better as I got a better start, made some quick passes early and was then able to ride my own race. It was a good feeling to get that race win and nice reward for everyone at CDR who has worked hard to get me the setup I wanted.”
Team owner Craig Dack was pleased to see Mackenzie make the most of difficult conditions on the toughest track of the season.
“With Billy, it has taken some time for him to adjust to the bike and for us to understand what he expects from the motorcycle,” Dack admitted. “But I think we found the sweet spot leading up to the Broadford round.
“He looked far more comfortable on the bike all weekend and I really feel we made some good progress with him this week.”
