Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s Geran Stapleton is eager to emulate the form which saw him capture fourth place in the opening MX2 moto at Wonthaggi when Monster Energy MX Nationals competition resumes at Broadford this weekend.

Stapleton moved forward from a “pretty standard” qualifying position of 10th to factor strongly in the first race, eventually finishing fourth in a trouble-free ride.

“The first moto was great,” said Stapleton. “I ended up with a fourth place for moto one, which is my best result for the season so far.”

Stapleton had a tougher time in the second moto, getting off to a bad start and then crashing after contact with another rider.

“I got a really bad start in moto two and was caught up in the first few turns,” he said. “I was trying to work my way through the pack when I came together with another rider and had a pretty big get off.”

The end result was a 4-17 finish, which sees Stapleton still handily-placed in eight on the MX2 ladder.

“I managed to salvage points for the weekend and I’m really looking forward to Broadford,” he added.

The MX2 class is currently controlled by Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke who has an 18-point lead over his teammate Luke Clout after three of 10 rounds.
