Motorex KTM’s Todd Waters took his second consecutive Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 overall win at Murray Bridge’s second round of the series in South Australia this past weekend.

The 22-year-old kicked off his day with a win in the all-new GoPro Super Pole, scoring five valuable championship points that proved to be the overall decider at the end of the day.

Having never lost an overall at Murray Bridge, Waters felt comfortable during the event, but the current series leader did find himself battling through the pack after making uncharacteristic mistakes.

“I always enjoy Murray Bridge, every time I’ve raced here I’ve won the overall so it’s been good a good place for me,” said Waters. “I was quick in that first race but just made a couple of mistakes.

“I didn’t get the best start to the first moto, but I worked my way into the lead by lap two and I had started to check out and pull a gap when I washed the front and fell.

“The starter button got stuck under the throttle and I went back to sixth. I was determined to keep chipping away and came back to third with first and second right ahead, when I snuffed the bike and dropped back to fifth.

After a frustrating moto one, Waters regrouped and came out swinging in moto two, taking out the win and clinching the overall.

“I was really disappointed when I came in because I knew the race was mine,” he added. “I was a little cheesed off but I told myself I need to stop sooking about it and keep a clear mind, which I did and I won the next moto.”

Waters holds a 19-point lead over CDR Yamaha’s Billy Mackenzie who currently sits second overall in the MX1 standings with eight rounds of racing remaining.
