Motorex KTM Racing team manger Rob Twyerould is in a buoyant mood after Todd Waters delivered the returning team a special clean-sweep of proceedings at Raymond Terrace’s Monster Energy MX Nationals opener.

Waters qualified fastest in his class and took out the all-new GoPro Super Pole win by more than a second, before backing that up with victories in both motos to win claim the early advantage in the series.

Twyerould believes Waters has risen to another level with his recent round one win, marking an impressive return for the revamped in-house factory KTM effort for 2013.

“A really great day for us today, Todd was just incredible,” said Twyerould. “His fitness was great, as was his race craft – he found lines no one else got onto.

“He was only fifth each time out of the gate but by the first or second lap he’d be leading. Our pre-season trip to New Zealand really made him sharp, but now he’s just gone to another level.”

Waters comes away from Raymond Terrace satisfied with his performance after navigating the tricky circuit with ease throughout the event.

“It was a pretty good day for us, we did exactly what we came to do and I’m very happy for the team,” Waters said. “I only got mediocre starts today but I was able to get through quickly and start to make a gap and ride my own race.

“It was a really tough track to race on, very slick and hard packed and one-line which made it really tough to pass on, so it was good that I was able to.”

The Queenslander feels comfortable aboard the all-new KTM 450 SX-F ‘Factory Edition’ on the hard-pack circuits and looks forward to round two at Murray Bridge – one of his favourite tracks on the schedule.

“I really loved my new bike, it’s exactly what I wanted to ride – it’s an animal,” he added. “I’m excited about going to Murray Bridge.

“I’m not known as a hard-pack rider so it was good to win here, but Murray Bridge is one of my favourite tracks so I’m looking forward to it.”

Waters holds a 15-point lead over Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Cody Cooper after round one, with CDR Yamaha’s Bill Mackenzie sitting two points behind Cooper in third.
