A determined Todd Waters claimed the opening Monster Energy MX Nationals Super Pole of the season, picking up five points to open his 2013 account and the $500 GoPro cheque from Lusty Industries that goes with it.

Waters quickly asserted himself as title-favourite as the lone rider to dip beneath the two-minute mark in regular qualifying and then repeated it again in Super Pole, his 1m59.623s leading Billy Mackenzie’s 2m00.702s. Completing the top five was Jake Moss (Campbell Mining Suzuki), Tye Simmonds (Berry Sweet/Lucas Oil Yamaha) and Ford Dale (Carlton Dry Honda), who crashed on his single-lap flyer.

The Motul MX2 pole position belonged to Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke with a 2:06.344, ahead of Josh Cachia (Carlton Dry Honda), Kade Mosig (Zero Seven Motorsports Kawasaki), Matt Ryan (Honda) and rookie Luke Clout (Serco Yamaha).

In the Under 19s Pirelli MXD category it was Jarrad Davis’ time from Group B that slotted him into first from Jesse Dobson, Nick Scott, Corey James and Hamish Harwood.
