The US Report: 13

PulpMX's Steve Matthes checks in direct from the US every Thursday, presented by Fox.

With the only off-week in the supercross season instead of staying home and planting myself on my couch, I decided that it would be much better to head down to Florida, hang out and bother some riders. Yeah, I’m weird like that.

With the Pulpmx.com staff also on-board we headed to Chad Reed’s on Tuesday and when we made the plans, we thought about filming Reed, Dean Wilson and Michael Byrne among others. But with the injuries to Reed and Dean, it was just Byrner suiting up for us. Michael’s been out for all of supercross rehabbing from his broken leg suffered last summer and he’s still bothered by it a bit.

But knowing that, he was still going a speed that most of us can only dream of out on the supercross track. Michael and I really discussed the KTM, what he’s finding out about it and what he’s doing to help out his teammates who are racing right now. Byrner’s a very good tester, you can tell from talking to him. Look for him on the line for the first outdoor national this year.

After that Reedy, unable to ride his dirt bike, decided to suit up for a little go kart action. Having spent god-knows-what paving a go kart track in his back yard, Reed’s got some real skills on the kart as he raced around with Byrner out there. Equipped with a factory CRF250F motor, those things were ridiculous. After that there was a lot of bench racing and a lot I can’t repeat here but I did find out a few things that I’ll be on in the coming months.

The next day was out at my old rider Tim Ferry’s house. Ferry’s retired now but he’s a full-time mini dad for his son Evan and helping out a couple of amateur racers as well. His track was prepped and looked to be a lot of fun. There were some motos, some hits on the ramp, some pizza eaten and I even had to work on a KTM 50 and Kawasaki KX450F. Yeah, I still got it!

Tomorrow we’re hitting up Ryan Villopoto’s place for some more filming, hanging out and with James Lissimore taking some epic photos. Yeah, I’m lucky. I know this. See you guys next week with a report from Houston SX!
