TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed has announced that he will undergo surgery this week on the same knee he injured at last year’s Dallas round of the Monster Energy Supercross series.

The Australian confirmed further surgery was required to get the back to 100 percent in order to move forward and continue his 2013 into the upcoming Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross series.

With a weekend off in the Monster Energy Supercross schedule, Reed is hoping to miss just the Houston round and make his return at round 14 in Minneapolis.

Reed finished just one spot off of the podium at Toronto’s round 12 where he announced his surgery plans.

“Well I got a sniff of the podium tonight,” Reed said. “I am excited to be getting the surgery so I can get back to being 100 percent healthy.

“My knee surgery that I had last year unfortunately has not healed 100 percent. I got to a level and it never progressed past that.”

Reed admits that he was hoping to make it through both the supercross and motocross seasons before having the knee repaired.

“I actually thought I could get through supercross and motocross and have it fixed in the off season,” he added.”Now I am favouring it and I am starting to tweak my back.

“I think it is best that I get it fixed as soon as possible and then get back on the bike ASAP as well. I am looking forward getting back out there, representing my sponsors and my team and having fun with the fans.”

Reed currently sits fourth overall in the Monster Energy Supercross 450SX standings, stay tuned updates on Reed’s recovery and expected return date.
