After suffering an unfortunate injury, Australia’s Dean Ferris will be working towards being race ready for the Valkenswaard round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MX2 competitor has undergone surgery on a broken collarbone which he sustained while contesting the opening round of the Dutch Motocross Championship in Halle.

Monster Energy Yamaha team manager Steve Dixon is hopeful that Ferris can make a quick recovery after his training accident on the sandy circuit.

“Initially it was beneficial for Dean to be at Halle to get some good time in the sand and against a lot of other grand prix riders who were also using the meeting for training and preparation for Valkenswaard,” said Dixon. “He had a good start and was going for fourth or fifth position when he got out of shape on the jump.”

Ferris, currently sitting third in the MX2 world championship standings, has two weeks to recover before the championship heads to the sands of Valkenswaard.

“Hopefully everything will go ok with the operation and then he just needs some time for the rib to get better,” he added. “With some rest, relaxation and luck we are crossing our fingers that Dean should be back for the next grand prix.”

Ferris has shown impressive form during the opening rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship, earning a career best second place MX2 finish at Qatar’s season opener.
