After contesting both the Australian motocross and supercross series for many years, Cheyne Boyd will wind back his program for 2013, opting to compete in select races throughout the year.

Boyd plans to enter only select Monster Energy MX Nationals rounds, including the Vet events, although you will still be seeing the Victorian competing at every round of the 2013 Australian Supercross Championships.

Unable to find a deal which financially would allow him to contend in both series, Boyd has been forced to compete on a more focused program this season.

“For 2013 I’m just doing selected motocross races, but I’ll do every round of the supercross series,” said Boyd. “The motocross I’m just doing select ones that I want to do, I’m going to do the Vet nationals, which is rounds five and 10.

“Right now there just wasn’t enough money in it to keep doing it full time and commit to a full motocross and supercross season. I love supercross and I still feel that I’m competitive in both of the series, but I just need the money coming in the door.

“Obviously motocross is the bigger series out of the two and fairly costly. I also know what it takes as far as conditioning and getting yourself ready to race that series.”

Now having free weekends at his disposal, Boyd plans to get back into the local and state racing scene, looking to assure he gives his sponsors as much exposure as possible.

“Now that I haven’t committed to the whole motocross series, it frees up a lot of weekends and I’d love to get back into doing local races and a few state races too,” Boyd explained.

“I still want to race, I still want to give something back to my sponsors, everyone is hooking me up really well and I just want to make it worthwhile for them.”

Boyd has already stepped into a day job with the help of quarry owner Dan Krusic. Krusic has offered Boyd a unique opportunity which will benefit him greatly throughout the season.

“I’ve already got a job with Dan Krusic, who owns the quarry where I built my supercross track last year,” Boyd said. “At the end of last year when negotiations where going on and I felt like I wasn’t going to get the money I wanted, I asked him and he said there would be a job if I wanted one.

“He’s got four motocross tracks at that same location also, and right now I’m just on loaders and dump trucks, but I’ve got the opportunity to go practice within 10 minutes after I finish work.

“That is a perfect scenario and situation for me, to just work full time, have a decent income, plus keep my eye in with riding.”

Other plans for Boyd in 2013 include racing the Hattah Rally and putting together unique free riding videos.

“I’ve also got some got some plans to do a few different things this year – enduro type events, I want to do Hattah and also get out there and do some free riding film clips,” he added.
