Former Australia motocross and supercross champion Matt Moss has officially finalised a deal to compete in the premier class with the Motul Pirelli Suzuki team for 2013.

Originally the Motul Pirell Suzuki team offered Moss the spot alongside Kiwi Cody Cooper, but while in the midst of ongoing negotiations, Suzuki revoked his contract in a bizarre twist to the silly season (click here to view that story).

One rider linked to that spot was fellow Australian Brett Metcalfe, but the possibility of a Metcalfe return was soon ruled out as he confirmed to MotoOnline.com.au that he would be remaining in the US (click here for the full story).

Moss understands that Suzuki were looking for the best rider possible to fill the position, but is relieved that their plans to bring in another rider fell through, snapping up the deal instantly.

“I think they [Suzuki] took it off me because everyone at this stage is taking budget cuts, and obviously they want the number one rider for the team,” said Moss.

“They obviously thought someone else was going to be that rider, but luckily that fell through and they came back to me so I snapped it up.

“I like the bike, I really get on with Jay Foreman, Jess [Foreman] and pretty much the whole team, so I just jumped at it.”

Moss looks forward to moving forward and racing with Jay Foreman and the whole Motul Pirelli Suzuki team for 2013.

“I think we have definitely made the right decision and I’m just ready to move forward now and start racing bikes, racing for Jay and Suzuki – just go from there and see where it takes us,” he added.

Moss has won multiple national titles in the MX2/Lites class with Motul Pirelli Suzuki, his deal clinching the final factory seat of the season for 2013.
