As the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals season opener inches closer and closer, MX2 rookie, Luke Clout, is working harder than ever to come into his first professional motocross season with all guns blazing aboard his Serco Yamaha YZ250F.

We saw a glimpse of Clout’s raw speed at last year’s Moree round, where he swept the Under 19s class motos. Clout then went on to show flashes of brilliance throughout the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships, and he has certainly set high expectations for himself heading into round one at Raymond Terrace.

Clout is definitely aiming to turn heads in his professional motocross debut, a top three overall spot on the MX2 podium will satisfy the 18-year-old.

“I want to come into the first round and turn a few heads, I definitely want to finish in the top three overall,” said Clout. “I definitely think I can do that because I’ve been training hard, so I’m pretty excited.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym, I’ve been going everyday and I’ve been swimming three times a week. Also I’ve been doing all my motos and my sprints – I think I’m pretty well prepared, so I can’t wait.”

The return to the traditional two 30-minute moto format should suit Clout, as he regulary lays down three 30-minute motos while training mid-week. Up against such stiff competition including his teammate Luke Styke, Clout believes this format will prove who has the best conditioning.

“Every time I go out and ride I try to do three 30s, so I definitely think I’ve got them down pat,” he added. “So it’s going to be good racing and it will definitely show who is the fittest rider out there.”

Round one of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals will kick-off on Sunday 14 April at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales.
