TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed has left Anaheim’s round five of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross series with a positive outlook, after bouncing back from an opening lap crash to take a confidence inspiring top five finish.

It was a case of deja vu for the the Australian, who was solid throughout practice and finished his heat race third. Reed fell in turn three of the opening lap of the 450SX main event which dropped him back to a dismal 19th position.

Reed charged through the order, making up 14 positions on his way to a fifth place finish. Acknowledging that his result doesn’t represent the progress made by his TwoTwo Motorsports team, Reed said it was the first time this year that he felt he could win.

“I am honestly happy with tonight,” Reed said “Sometimes the result doesn’t always fit the progress you have made,” said Reed. “I feel like we now have all the pieces of the puzzle and it was the first time this year I felt like I could win.”

Reed looks forward to San Diego’s round six this weekend inside Qualcomm Stadium, a location that has treated the former champion well in the past, his most recent San Diego win came in 2011.

“Bring on San Diego,” he added. “I know we are heading in the right direction and I really want to put it all together for a good result.”

Reed currently holds fifth place in the 450SX class championship standings on 81 points, sitting 26 points behind series leader Davi Millsaps.
