MX2 World Champion Herlings analyses combined GPs

Current MX2 FIM Motocross world champion Jeffrey Herlings has shared his thoughts on the all-new combined grand prix races that have recently been announced for the upcoming 2013 season and possible years to come.

Jeffrey Herlings will look forward to battling with the MX1 competitors in 2013.

Current MX2 FIM Motocross world champion Jeffrey Herlings has shared his thoughts on the all-new combined grand prix races that have recently been announced for the upcoming 2013 season and possible years to come.

The Red Bull KTM Factory rider has mixed emotions about the select events which will see both the MX1 and MX2 riders go head to head in combined motos.

Whilst admitting that the difference in power between the two bikes is substantial, the Dutchman looks forward to racing against the likes of Antonio Cairoli and Ken De Dycker.

“Well, you know on an MX2 bike it is pretty unfair, for sure in Mexico because of the altitude, and competing against MX1 bikes,” said Herlings. “I think we have to respect the rule and just make the most of it.

“I think for me it’s pretty cool, because I get to race against guys like Cairoli and De Dycker and all those guys, and if I want to go to MX1 in 2014 I know what to expect.

“It is going to be difficult with the horsepower, but for the fans and the television and to promote it is going to be nice to see, it will be an awesome event.”

Herlings says a top five results in the combined races would satisfy him, but this does not mean the aggressive rider will not be shooting for the win against the best of the premier MX1 class.

“If I get fifth in the MX1/MX2 race I will be pumped, but I really try and go there and race with Antonio, I know it is out of reach, but I really want to try,” he added. “It is almost impossible, but I will give everything to challenge those top guys.

These combined rounds of the 2013 FIM Motocross World Championships will take place in Qatar, Thailand, Mexico and Brazil. Click here for the complete story on this all-new and exciting format.
