Youthstream and the FIM have announced a number of all-new combined grand prix events to be held at flyaway rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championships for 2013 and beyond.

Rounds outside of Europe which consist of Qatar, Thailand, Mexico and Brazil will become combined rounds. These rounds will be completely different to any other event, with both MX1 and MX2 riders competing against one another.

15 regular racers each from both the MX1 and MX2 class championships will be chosen to compete, along with an additional 10 riders being selected, most likely local riders, to fill the 40-rider starting grid.

“Some people might see this as a revolution, but in fact it is the right evolution to bring this FIM Motocross World Championship to become a true world championship – multi-cultural and multi-racial covering the entire world with it’s events,” said Youthstream president, Giuseppe Luongo.

“Changes often bring other changes and we see this moment the exact time to make other fundamental changes to adapt motocross to this new era and affront the new challenges.

“It is imperative that Motocross becomes more attractive, with more emotions, and outstanding show for our fans of the world. Our program needs to be understandable for the international viewers and easy to follow for the big TV networks.

“This is why we would like to propose some necessary and radical changes to the Motocross Grand Prix format.”

Youthstream will be providing additional support to teams competing in these combined events by offering freight allowances to each team, the amount of freight support is decided on the team’s performance and success in the past.

If this combined style of racing is deemed a success at the selected rounds, Youthstream and FIM will look to implement a similar structure for 2014 which would include separate first MX1 and MX2 motos, with an additional ‘Super Final’ that would see both classes combined for the second motos.
