World Motocross teams take shape for 2013 grand prix season

Factory teams have all but finalised their 2013 teams ahead of the Motocross World Championship season.

Factory teams have all but finalised their 2013 teams ahead of the Motocross World Championship season.

The all-star Red Bull KTM will return as defending MX1 World Champions with Antonio Cairoli and Ken de Dycker, while Jeffrey Herlings will defend his MX2 title alongside Jordi Tixier.

Monster Energy Yamaha will field Joel Roelans and Steven Frossard in MX1, as well as MX2 contender Christophe Charlier in the Rinaldi-run section of the works squad. The Dixon arm of Monster Energy Yamaha will field Australia’s Dean Ferris, Mel Pocock and Maxime Desprey.

Kevin Strijbos will join the Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 ranks for the third time in his career for the 2013 FIM Motocross World Championship alongside Clement Desalle, that team to be managed by the legendary Joel Smets. The MX2 team will feature Max Anstie.

The Honda World Motocross team has signed Max Nagl to race MX1 alongside Evgeny Bobryshev. Former world champion Davide Philippaerts will ride a Gariboldi Honda in the MX1 class, while Harri Kullas will ride MX2 for the team.

Gautier Paulin will again lead the Kawasaki Racing Team in 2013, to be joined by Jeremy Van Horebeek, who will be back in green for his move to the MX1 class. Ferris’ former ICE1RACING Kawasaki team has signed Xavier Boog, focusing solely on MX1 in 2013.

Team CLS MX2 Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit will line up two new young riders in MX2 next season alongside MX1 rookie Tommy Searle. Arnaud Tonus and Alessandro Lupino have signed a two-year deal with the factory Kawasaki MX2 squad.

Next year’s Motocross Grand Prix series will commence in Qatar on 2 March.
