Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing’s Luke Styke will miss the remainder of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships, suffering a broken wrist at Phillip Island’s second round on Saturday.

Styke was injured in the opening laps of the SX-Lites main event, undergoing surgery this week, and now facing the road to recovery before preparing for the 2013 season.

After finishing third at the opening round, Styke came into round two feeling confident and ready to go. He posted fast qualifying times and also took a heat race victory throughout the day.

But things unraveled in the second corner of the race when he tipped over in a tight berm. He then mounted a charge and tried to make his way back through the field, only to fall heavily again a few laps later and walk from the circuit holding his left wrist.

“I’m gutted. I was in a good position after the first turn, second I think, then I fell and was nearly last,” Styke said.

“I wanted to get back up front and started to pass a few guys, then I hit a rock in the jump face of a little double and it spat the bike sideways and I hit the ground hard. I don’t know what else to say. I’m just so disappointed.”

Styke is expected to be remaining with the Serco team for next season.
