CDR Yamaha’s newest recruit Dan McCoy has kicked-off his 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championship campaign with a bang, exceeding many’s expectations on debut for the team.

McCoy, who won a Pro Open main event during the 2011 supercross season, led an impressive 13 laps of the 20-lap main event at Dubbo’s 2012 season opener on Saturday evening.

Reigning champion and Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Jay Marmont was eventually able to make the move for the lead, but McCoy remained composed, maintaining close contact with the leader to finish up with a solid second place finish.

“I got a great start in the main event and just tried to focus on putting in the best laps I could and not worry about what was happening behind me,” said McCoy.

“I thought the first 10 laps were really good and felt that I was riding well enough to hold on for the race win but I lost my flow for a couple of laps and that’s all it took for Jay to pass me.”

The 28-year-old is more than happy with his CDR Yamaha team and looks to build on this second place finish as he fights for the 2012 ASX Pro Open championship.

“It was a good start for the championship and I’m really happy with my bike and the CDR Yamaha team,” said McCoy. “Hopefully we can build from this and fight on for the championship.”

McCoy, CDR Yamaha and the ASX series will now head to Phillip Island in Victoria for round two of the series on 27 October.
