Chad Reed has officially confirmed he will make his return to racing at the second annual Monster Energy Cup next month in Las Vegas.

The TwoTwo Motorsports rider and owner has been out of action since suffering a season ending crash at the Arlington round of the 2012 AMA Supercross series.

This will be Reed’s first time contesting in the unique event, and the Australian is excited to take his shot at the large prize purse on offer.

“On race day, it will have been eight-plus months since I have raced,” said Reed. “It’s been a lot of work with rehab, but I’m excited to get back to racing and to have my fitness at 100 percent.

“If I win a million bucks in Vegas, I mean you just add it to the collection. It would be better in my bank account than anyone else’s.”

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup will be held at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on 20 October.
