Just weeks after capturing his second career 450 Class Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey has swept both motos in the series’ penultimate round at Steel City Raceway.

Dungey rode to a perfect 1-1 result, marking up his ninth straight round victory out of the 11 races contended throughout the 2012 series.

MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi was once again in the mix trying to upset the 2012 champion. Alessi would lead a large portion of moto two, only to be relegated back to second place, 3-2 finishes landed him the runner-up overall spot.

Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki captured their first-ever podium finish with Josh Grant in the saddle at Steel City. Grant used 4-4 moto finishes to land himself a third place overall on the day to round out the podium.

Alessi continues to hold a solid second overall in the points chase, while Andrew Short and Jake Weimer sit a close third and fourth respectively, just six points separate these two riders.

The 250 Class it was the Eli Tomac show. Tomac swept both motos on his GEICO Honda, showing impressive speed and gaining a large amount of championship points, due to a sub-par showing from series leader Blake Baggett.

Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen scored himself a second place overall finish, using 3-2 moto scores to do so. While Tomac’s teammate Justin Barcia was third overall with 2-3 scores.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s series leader Baggett was unable to charge to the front of the pack, settling for a pair of fourth place finishes, for fourth overall on the day.

Baggett now leads Tomac in the championship chase by just 14 points, while Barcia lurks four points back from his teammate in third position.

The series will now roll into Southern California for the season finale at Lake Elsinore on 8 September, where the 250 Class champion will be crowned.
