Cairoli and Searle win British Grand Prix at Matterley Basin

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli took out the MX1 victory with fine form at the Matterley Basin FIM Motocross World Championship round.

Antonio Cairoli claimed another MX1 victory at Matterley Basin.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli took out the MX1 victory with fine form at the Matterley Basin FIM Motocross World Championship round.

After qualifying at the top of the charts, Cairoli continued to dominate the premier class field with perfect 1-1 moto finishes.

Following Cairoli onto the podium in second position was his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate, Max Nagl. This podium result is the first of his season, after returning from a back injury.

Rounding out the MX1 podium was Kawsaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin, after a suffering from some mid-season issues, the frenchman is back in-form.

Cairoli now leads Suzuki mounted Clement Desalle by 55 points, while Kawasaki mounted Christophe Pourcel sits in third position.

In the hotly contested MX2 class it was Team Floride Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Tommy Searle who took the win, along with accomplishing one of his dreams, winning a home Grand Prix in front of friends and family.

Searle took the win with convincing 1-1 finishes, while arch-rival and series leader Jeffrey Herlings rode his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine to a 2-2 moto score to take the runner up spot.

Rounding out the MX2 podium at Matterley Basin was Monster Energy Yamaha’s Zach Osborne, the American rider used 3-4 moto scores to claim his second podium finish in a row.

Herlings leads the championship standings by 51 points over Searle, while Herlings’ teammate Jeremy van Horebeek holds down third position.

The FIM Motocross World Championship has one weekend off and it will be back in Lierop, the Netherlands, for the Grand Prix of Benelux on 2 September.
