Kade's Corner: Final Countdown

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s MX2 contender Kade Mosig writes for MotoOnline.com.au.

So picking up where we left off, just before Hervey Bay, I mentioned that I had a new mechanic onboard, Andy Pringle. We did a bunch of testing in between rounds and every time we go out testing, we improve the bike.

I really feel like we’ve got a good, solid setup now and the Monster Energy Kawasaki KX250F is right for me. Obviously it showed at Appin with third overall. I got a couple of seconds and then sort of one race let me down for the overall win.

But I feel like every week I’m improving, the bike’s improving, and I’m feeling really comfortable and happy with the team.

Right after the break, Hervey Bay wasn’t too bad, I got a better result. I got a second in the first moto so I was pretty happy with that. I think I went 2-4 and then once again I stuffed the last race up, I had a few crashes so that really ended my hopes for an overall.

I was feeling very confident going into Horsham and I knew we had improved the bike that extra step again. I went out and qualified first, being the first time I qualified first, it was a good thing to do that and get that off my back.

It showed that my pace has improved. It’s really all about confidence, I’m just starting to feel a bit more confident and gelling with the bike a little more.

Last year I finished off strong and obviously the plan was to come out strong this year. A couple of little things weren’t going my way earlier this year and I just sort of didn’t have the right set-up going for me.

To finish strongly, it’s similar thing as to what I dealt with last year, to really get the bike set up properly. It’s the hardest thing starting fresh with a new team and a new bike, so it’s taking me a little bit longer to get everything how I want it.

We’ve got two weekends off now, I’ve been based in Queensland for the last six weeks, just so I’m a little closer to the team. I’m staying up here until the end of the motocross.

This weekend I’m actually on the road heading up to Gladstone to do the JP [Jono Porter] Memorial race for the first time ever. So I’m pretty excited, pretty pumped to get to do that, good opportunity to go and do that. So I’ve got just a little seven-hour road trip up there and back, bit of race practice for the weekend.

Then I’ll come back and I think the team is getting together to do a bunch of testing and riding, together with Billy [Mackenzie] and Jay [Marmont]. So I’m looking forward to doing that.

At Moree and Coolum, I did really well at last year, so I’m looking forward to it. I really like those tracks, I really like hard-pack tracks and we’ve only had a few of those rounds this year.

Obviously I went 2-2 there last year, so I just have to go one step better this year and get some race wins under my belt before the season is over. We’ll see how it goes!
