Ben Townley will be aiming towards a possible return to racing at the opening round of the all-new Australia Supercross Championship which takes off in Dubbo, New South Wales, on 13 October.

After suffering a severe hip injury during round two of the Monster Energy MX Nationals at Coonabarabran, the Carlton Dry Honda Thor team rider has been working hard on rehabilitating himself.

Currently in the final stages of recovery, the 2007 East Coast AMA Supercross Lites Champion believes the level of riding has been lifted in Australia over the past few years. With that, the series would be a good training ground for a potential US return.

“I’ve been working away at the final stages of rehab and am just taking things week by week as I get ready to get back riding,” said Townley.

“The supercross talent here is strong and the level of riding has definitely been raised over the past few years.”

Townley believes the chance to run alongside the MotoGP event in Phillip Island is a massive thing for the sport, and a chance to reach a completely new audience.

“It will be good to be part of and of course it’s a massive thing for our sport to be aligned with the MotoGP event,” he added. “This is a chance for us to reach a whole new audience and create a new level of interest.”

The addition of Townley to the premier class action would be sure to shake things up, but at this moment Townley’s return to racing is still uncertain.
