Could Ryan Villopoto be joining TwoTwo Motorsports alongside Australian legend Chad Reed in 2013? It’s not out of the question, according to Reed in an interview on SPEED News Australia last night, 25 July.

Reed revealed that his TwoTwo team is in talks with Villopoto, hoping to reunite as teammates like they were at Villopoto’s current Monster Energy Kawasaki team during 2010.

“Ryan’s contract is up and we’re talking to him,” Reed told SPEED. “We really want to try and make it happen. He’s a great kid and we’ve been teammates before.

“That was an unsuccessful run for both of us that year but we can make a good run for it and we can make it work. We’ll see what happens, at this point it can go in any direction so we just hope that we’re in the fight.”

Despite his intentions to sign a top quality contender, Reed is adamant that he plans on battling for the championship himself once again in 2013.

“Being 30 everybody looks at you as being the elder of the bunch but I feel fitter than I’ve ever been – it ends when I say it ends,” he said.

“Next year will be a good strong year for me and I’ll be there to contend for the championship.”

The 30-year-old, based in Florida, has also outlined his intentions to try his hand at NASCAR, potentially with countryman Marcos Ambrose after a positive recent stint behind the wheel.

“At one point in time I kind of had a dream to go V8 racing, but that dream is dwindling and I see myself trying to go the NASCAR route,” he explained.

“Talking with Marcos and some of the NASCAR boys – they’re super open. You can relate to Marcos on a level because he left Australia and came here and struggled for a long time with NASCAR.

“To hear his perspective and recommendations, I’m really thankful. I’m going to listen and that’s why I’m going the route that I’m going. I feel like Marcos is steering the ship and I want to have some fun with it.”

SPEED News Australia is aired every Wednesday night during the motorsport season, at 7:00pm AEST.
