Sherwood edges out Torres in Madrid Red Bull X-Fighters

Levi Sherwood has emerged victorious inside the infamous Las Ventas bullring at the Madrid stop of the 2012 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour.

The New Zealand native went up against hometown hero and former Madrid winner Dany Torres in the final round, in font of 20,000 roaring Spanish fans.

Sherwood’s second victory of the season in Madrid, along with his season opening Dubai win, moves him ahead of America’s Todd Potter to take control of the overall points chase, after four of the six scheduled events on the 2012 calender.

Finishing third in the event was another Spaniard, Maikel Melero, who scored his first podium of his career, while Australia’s Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams finished up in eighth overall.

Former series leader Todd Potter was unable to compete in the event due to injuries sustained in a heavy crash during practice before the event, Potter now sits third overall behind Javier Villegas and Sherwood.

The Red Bull X-Fighters series moves on to Munich’s Olympic Stadium for the next stop of the tour on 11 August, ahead of the season finale at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island on 6 October.
