A determined moto three win by CDR Yamaha’s Josh Coppins at Horsham on Sunday has indicated that the experienced Kiwi isn’t willing to let his lead in the Monster Energy MX Nationals slip any further.

Coppins maintains his series leader’s red plate following a third place performance in the premier MX1 class, but it was his vital victory over title rival Todd Waters in the final moto that made his day.

Coppins posted consistent 4-3 results in the opening two back to back motos but undoubtedly the highlight of his day was the final moto win.

Coppins had a reasonable start but mid the midway point of the 30-minute moto had charged his way forward to be within striking distance of the race leader. He made his move in the final few laps and secured a hard fought victory.

“I wasn’t happy with the first two motos as I wasn’t hitting my lines or really flowing around the track,” Coppins stated.

“In the last moto I just focused on my riding and let the race sort itself out and it worked as I relaxed, got into a good grove and was able to pass my way forward, so I was pleased I finished the day on a strong note.”

Coppins’ victory now sits at eight points ahead of Waters with just three rounds remaining in season 2012.
