Wilsons Jetpilot MX teammates Luke Wilson and Thomas Rushton took home a rewarding amount of points at the MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, at Hervey Bay in Queensland on Sunday, 1 July.

Wilson qualified a season-best 14th, before going on to finish 21st in moto one. He didn’t finish the second moto, however a satisfying 14th place in the taxing final 30-minute moto was a strong way to conclude the round. He claimed 20th overall.

“It started off good, qualifying 14th, which is the best I’ve had this year and I was stoked with that,” Wilson said. “In the first back-to-back races I had two bad races and ended up pulling in during the second one.

“I had a few people talk to me, including Billy Mackenzie, and it helped me a lot. I had to go out with a clear mind for the 30-minute moto, did that and ended up finishing 14th so I was really happy with that. That result brought the passion back into it for me and I can’t wait for the next round now.”

Wilsons Jetpilot MX teammate Rushton also enjoyed a promising weekend on track as the series’ second half commenced. He qualified 19th and then battled to 17th in the first two motos, but was forced out of the third and final moto. Those results combined handed Rushton 18th for the round.

Wilson now sits 28th in the premier MX1 championship after six of 10 rounds, while Rushton is 30th. The series will continue on 15 July at Horsham in Victoria.
