A number of Victorian champions were crowned at Horsham at the last round of the Victorian State Motocross Championship on 23-24 June.

Sam Martin won his first A Grade Open championship by 53 points during the final round for GYTR Yamaha.

Martin had his best round of the year since round two at Cobram, winning three out of four motos, doing enough to stay ahead of Kyle McKeddie and Thomas Alexander to win his first A Grade Open title.

“I really enjoy racing the YZ450F and this is a result I’m proud of. I have never won a major championship before, so this is pretty cool,” Martin said.

“I wanted to win today and build lots of momentum for the last half of the MX Nationals, so it was nice to get it done. A big thank you goes out to the GYTR Yamaha team and our sponsors for their massive support and also to my family for the effort they put in.”

Fellow MX Nationals regular Joel Milesevic, of JBS Motorsports, won his first two Victorian senior titles, claiming the A Lites and Under 19s classes, being one of the youngest riders ever to do so at their first attempt.

The A Lites round was won by Hart and Huntington/InsureMyRide Suzuki’s Lewis Woods, ahead of Milesevic and Martin. Current MX Nationals MXD series leader Dylan Long was fourth.

Round seven of the Monster Energy MX Nationals takes place at the Horsham Motorcycle Club next month, 15 July.
