Monster Energy Kawasaki’s defending Australian Supercross Champion Jay Marmont says that having a round in 2012 at the AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix would be a special event for him.

It’s tipped that Australian Supercross will host that supercross will take centre stage during Saturday night’s festivities on the 26-28 October weekend.

Motorcycling Australia this week released a calendar confirming the MotoGP event as round two of the supercross series, before promptly recalling the announcement after a suspected communication misunderstanding.

Now, it’s expected that the Australian Grand Prix Corporation will announce the sideshow within the week.

For Marmont, the promise of racing in front of the world’s top road racers would be a dream come true. Plus, it’s already believed that more than one MotoGP rider has shown interest in attending the event to show their support.

“If we do go to the MotoGP event, it is a passion of mine and I absolutely love it,” Marmont said.

“When I could go to the MotoGP events a few years ago before Super X came along, I used to make my way there and I absolutely love it being there watching the races – I really respect those guys.

“So to finally be racing at events like that is very special to me, it’s going to be awesome to check out MotoGP and also interact with all the fans that go to MotoGP.

“I think it’s a great opportunity and I think it’s definitely a step forward in the right direction from a rider’s point of view.”

Following a nightmare start to his Monster Energy MX Nationals title defence, Marmont is already turning his attention to reclaiming the supercross crown for a second season in succession.
