Shoulder surgery forces Ferris out of 2012 world championship

Australia's lone FIM Motocross World Championship contender Dean Ferris will miss the remainder of the 2012 season.

Aussie Dean Ferris has been forced out of the 2012 world championship.

Australia’s lone FIM Motocross World Championship contender Dean Ferris has revealed that injuries will most likely force him to miss the remainder of the 2012 season.

The ICE1RACING Kawasaki rider suffered a dislocated shoulder at St Jean d’Angely in France during the GP, forcing him out of recent rounds in Portugal and Belgium.

Ferris has now confirmed that he’ll undergo surgery in a bid to recover 100 percent for 2013, focused on next season following an injury-plagued rookie GP campaign.

“I’ve decided to have surgery on my shoulder after dislocating it two weeks ago,” Ferris announced via Facebook. “Also getting some old hardware removed while I’m at it. Operation is tomorrow. Will focus on getting 100 percent fit for 2013.”

Ferris originally missed the opening grand prix due to a wrist injury, before making significant progress upon return.

Prior to his shoulder injury, Ferris’ best result of the season came during moto two at the Italian GP, where he claimed 10th.
