Series leaders Ryan Dungey and Blake Baggett have further extended their respective class leads at round five of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship held at the Budds Creek circuit over the weekend.

Dungey continued his form with another 1-1 450 Class performance on his Red Bull KTM, bringing his winning streak to six straight motos and extending his series lead to 54 points over MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi.

“It was good, starting from practice and into the races,” said Dungey. “I got good starts, which helped get me out front. Mike [Alessi] and Broc [Tickle] both rode well, so I had to do some work in that second moto.

“We have a couple weeks off now, so I’ll use it to my advantage and see if we can get a little bit better.”

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle earned a 450 Class career best second overall at Budds Creek, putting in solid 2-2 moto finishes. Behind Tickle it was recent podium regular Alessi, rounding out the podium in third place overall.

Australia’s Brett Metcalfe took his Yoshimura Suzuki to sixth overall with 8-6 moto finishes, currently sitting fifth overall in points, Metcalfe lurks just 12 points behind Andrew Short who holds down fourth in the series.

In the 250 Class it was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett who bounced back with a 2-1 overall win at Budds Creek, after a sub-par fourth overall in round four at High Point.

After a rough 2011 Budds Creek round, Baggett is satisfied with the result and heads into round six with a 13-point lead over GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia.

“Last year, I crashed in both motos,” said Baggett. “Today, I didn’t crash and came out with a win. After last week, it feels good to be back up here. I knew we would be catching lappers in moto two and you never know with them, so I just kept pushing and it worked out.”

Behind Baggett the former MX2 FIM World Motocross champion Ken Roczen took 3-2 moto finishes on his Red Bull KTM, once again coming ever so close to taking that elusive first win on American soil.

Barcia rounded out the podium in third overall with 1-5 finishes, a bad start in moto two put an end to the current East Coast Lites AMA Supercross champion’s shot at the overall win.

Matt Moss, former Australian MX Nationals Pro Lites champion, made his American debut outdoors for the JDR/J-Star/KTM team after suffering health issues early in the season. After suffering a mechanical in moto one, Moss finished up the day with 36-17 finishes for 21st overall.

The series now takes a two week break before heading into the world famous Red Bud event on 1 July for round six of 12.
