Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clemente Desalle celebrated his first FIM World Motocross Championship win of the season in the premier MX1 Class at the Portugal Grand Prix.

Clemente Desalle broke through in Portugal for his first MX1 overall win of the 2012 season.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clemente Desalle is celebrating his first FIM World Motocross Championship win of the season in the premier MX1 class at the Portugal Grand Prix.

Desalle’s win in Portugal made him the fourth different winner in seven events, riding through wet conditions in the first moto, the Belgian rider was able to combine his 1-3 moto scores to take a breakthrough victory.

Desalle, now a three-time winner in Portugal, enjoys the circuit but admits he was disappointed with his performance in the last half of the second moto and believes he can do better.

“Finally I win a GP! And also the first moto,” Desalle said. “It is always positive to win and it’s good but I’m a little bit disappointed by the second part of the second moto because I can do better.

“I lost a lot of energy at the beginning of the race because I had a bad start and had to push a lot to come back to the front.

“The track was drier in the second moto and we had more possibilities to pass. It’s my third win here now and I like Portugal and Agueda.”

Desalle sits second overall in the MX1 standings, 37 points behind first place rider Antonio Cairoli after seven rounds of racing.
