After a shock crash in the 450 Class’ moto one at Colorado’s Thunder Valley, Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart is now uncertain if he will be able to return at High Point next weekend for round four of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

Footage from Stewart’s GoPro helmet camera shows a photographer had crossed the track as he landed off of a jump, and according to Stewart’s team that is what seems to have triggered the incident.

Even though Stewart and the photographer were not close enough to make contact, the split second line change caused him to cross-rut and go down hard, resulting in a wrist injury which forced the former-champion to retire from the moto and be unable to line up for moto two.

“It’s not what we wanted, but that’s racing,” said Stewart. “It wasn’t worth risking anything in the second moto. I’m going to go through next week and test out how my hand feels and hopefully we’re ready to go at High Point.”

Ryan Dungey now takes control of the points standings and leads by 35 points over Jake Weimer who jumped into second place, bumping Stewart back to third position.
