Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey plans to attack James Stewart earlier in the motos at round three of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Thunder Valley in Colorado this weekend.

Last weekend at the Freestone round Dungey shadowed Stewart throughout both 450 Class motos, unable to make a move stick on the current series leader.

The 2010 outdoor champion has taken second overall at both rounds one and two of the series, while Stewart has laid down two consecutive 1-1 performances.

“Sitting behind James, I was trying to make a pass happen maybe more than I should have, but I was trying to make it happen both times,” Dungey told Racer X. “It just didn’t happen, it didn’t come together from that perspective.

“Everybody knows he’s a tough competitor, and that’s good for the sport to have good racing like that. But it’s never good to be sitting behind a guy for that long, it makes it tougher, physically, I think, and you’re eating roost the whole time. But I think it’s good for us to push each other, I just need to make the passes quicker.”

Dungey sits just 14 points behind series leader Stewart in the points chase after two rounds of racing.
