Raceline Pirelli Suzuki MX2 rookie Errol Willis will use the mid-season break in the Monster Energy MX Nationals season to refine his method of attack in the pro ranks.

Willis started his 2012 campaign in strong form with a promising run of results, but the Wanneroo and Murray Bridge rounds have proven tougher for the determined 18-year-old.

In South Australia on Sunday, Willis was ninth overall as he continues to learn the ropes of the pro ranks, claiming 12th in moto one and ninth in moto two to commence the round.

A better start in the final outing aboard the RM-Z250 saw Willis race to fifth, securing him another top 10 position and retaining 10th in the standings.

“My day wasn’t too bad, but we struggled a bit off the start and couldn’t really get off the gate, so the results reflected that,” Willis said. “For the last race we made a tyre change and I got the holeshot, which worked out good.

“It was a good moto, just hanging on the back of the front guys and I felt comfortable again. I’m looking forward to the break and then the next couple of rounds, which will be good.”

Willis is one of the sport’s brightest young talents to emerge in recent years, dominating last year’s MXD (formerly Under 19s) championship.

The MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will continue at Hervey Bay in Queensland on Sunday, 1 July.
