Porter on point as local favourite at Wanneroo MX Nationals

CarsRus Full Force Racing's Dean Porter is set to be the local favourite this weekend at round four of the Monster Energy MX Nationals in the sands of Wanneroo, WA.

Can Dean Porter repeat his 2008 performance at Wanneroo this weekend?

CarsRus Full Force Racing’s Dean Porter is set to be the local favourite this weekend at round four of the Monster Energy MX Nationals in the sands of Wanneroo, WA.

Porter took a clean sweep in Wanneroo back in 2008 and is understandably excited to return and try to repeat that dominant performance.

After heading to America last year and racing in the ultra competitive AMA outdoor series, Porter returned to Australia with some valuable experience under his belt and currently sits in 11th place overall in the MX1 standings after three rounds.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend, I can’t wait for it. The podium is what I’m hoping for, but it would be good if I could top 10 in every moto,” said Porter.

“I need to get some good starts, I know I can because TAW Cylinder heads has got my bike flying and I’m finally on a track that I know.

“I have picked up a lot of lines from practicing there over the years.”

Porter remembers the crowd behind him in 2008 as he rode to victory.

“I remember in 2008 everyone around the track was cheering me on, hopefully it will be the same if not bigger this year.” Porter added.

Porter has recently done some sand track riding, in preparation for Wanneroo.

“I’ve done a lot of riding there since I turned 16, I don’t really get up there too much now because of work and haven’t ridden it much in the last few years but my local track Coastal Park is very similar and sandy,” Porter explained.

“I went for a ride the other day and I felt right at home and good strait away.”

President of the AJS Motorcycle Club, Troy Luksa believes Porter’s style is unmatched in the sand, hoping for a 2008 repeat.

“I’m absolutely looking forward to the racing, Dean is our local hot shot and everyone from around the area will be here to see him take on the best of the east,” said Luksa.

“He won both motos convincingly in 2008 and if he can emulate that again he will bring the place down.

“He’s been up here a couple of times since the start of the year and he’s looking as fast and as fit as I have ever seen him.” Luksa added.
