The CDR Yamaha team is ready to take on the deep sands of Wanneroo this weekend, after using time between rounds to ride some sand and test out settings in preparation for the Monster Energy MX Nationals round four of 10.

Knowing full well that the deep sand will require a completely different setup to the harder surfaces early on in the series, the team recently spent a day testing at the Rosebud circuit in Victoria, using the sandy surface as a base for their Wanneroo settings.

Team owner Craig Dack is confident his riders will be properly prepared for Wanneroo.

“The team spent a day testing in the sand and it was a real benefit to everyone. The riders got a chance to get adjusted to the shifting surface, while the crew were able to get the bikes exactly how the riders wanted them,” Dack explained.

“The Wanneroo round is always tough but I feel confident in our preparations.”

MX1 leader Coppins believes his technique and set-up is right for the sandy conditions.

“Wonthaggi, Wanneroo and Murray Bridge are all a softer surface than what we experienced at the opening two rounds of Conondale and Coonabarabran, so I have spent plenty of time riding in sand and ensuring my technique and set-up is right.” said Coppins.

Bopping is feeling more comfortable with the new team and will aim to put himself on the podium once again.

“As the year progresses, I have been feeling better and better on the YZ450,” Bopping said. “My speed has been good and I have qualified well at each round, but after getting a podium at the last round, I’m keen to get up there again.”

Coppins will be aiming to build his points-lead in Wanneroo, while Bopping will work on improving on his current fifth place position overall.
