Monster Energy Kawasaki has officially announced that South African Tyla Rattray will move up to the 450 class as a fill-in for the injured Ryan Villopoto.

The former MX2 World Champion will pit alongside teammate Jake Weimer for the duration of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s senior manager Reid Nordin believes Rattray has what it takes to put the bike up front.

“We are excited to welcome Tyla to the team,” said Nordin. “He has proven to be a contender for a national championship each and every year, and we are confident he can put Kawasaki up front this summer.”

Rattray is excited about the opportunity and has his sights set on a 450 class title, after originally planning to race the outdoor season on his current Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki Lites bike.

“I’m pumped to race the 450 class with Monster Energy Kawasaki,” said Rattray. “I know both the team, and the bike can win championships. I couldn’t be more thankful to everyone allowing me to have this opportunity.”

Rattray will line-up for his first AMA 450 national race at round one of the outdoor season at Hangtown, CA, on 19 May.
