Zero Seven Motorsports’ Adam Monea has taken confidence in his consistent effort at Wonthaggi’s third round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals, piecing together three trouble-free motos.

Monea has been a revelation this season and currently ranks as top Suzuki rider in the MX2 series, racing to fourth overall in Victoria on Sunday.

After entering the round eighth in the standings, Monea raced to 4-6-2 finishes for fourth overall, which helped him climb up one position to seventh for the season so far.

“In the first two rounds I think I’ve shown that I can run with the fastest guys, but have let down my overall result by having a bad race here and there,” Monea explained.

“I know to be a title contender I need to sort that out, which was my main goal for this weekend.”

Monea’s real indication of form came in the final 30-minute moto, leading early and then pressuring eventual winner Ford Dale the whole way, proving to himself that he can mix it with the best in class.

“I’m really happy with today and that final moto,” he added. “After Ford passed me I was able to find some new lines and close the gap back up on him towards the end of the race. I know my speed and fitness to win is there.

“Today has given me a lot of confidence going into the next round in WA. I’m happy to get three solid motos – we can keep building on that!”

With Wanneroo next on the calendar, Monea now sits 57 points in arrears of series leader Luke Styke.
