The luckless Wilsons Jetpilot MX duo of Luke Wilson and Thomas Rushton will be looking to turn their season around when the Monster Energy MX Nationals continue in Western Australia this month.

Both endured a difficult third round at Wonthaggi in Victoria last weekend, but the team is still taking positives from the event as the season’s halfway point approaches.

Wilson had a frustrating weekend plagued by a clutch malfunction, forcing him to settle for 25th in moto one, 24th in moto two and a non-finish in the final 30-minute moto of the round. After not scoring any points at Wonthaggi, he sits 29th in the standings.

“It wasn’t the best weekend for me after I had some bike problems and the track didn’t really suit me,” Wilson commented. “We’ll forget about this weekend and look forward to the next.”

Rushton had a promising weekend to finish just outside the points in two of the three motos after experiencing a streak of bad luck himself, scoring 21-22-DNF results for the round.

Rushton, the youngest rider in the class, is now one position behind Wilson in the series, currently sitting in 30th overall.

“My day wasn’t too bad, but it could have been a lot better,” Rushton said. “In the first race I got a bad start and rode back to 20th, then in race two I was 15th and I crashed so got back to 22nd.

“In the last one I wasn’t able to finish with some bike problems, but I look forward to the next round.”

The team will now head west when Wanneroo in Western Australia hosts the fourth round of 10 to be contested this season on 12-13 May.
