Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Billy Mackenzie admits that he can accept his recent injuries, knowing that he was putting it all on the line early on in the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

Mackenzie has been in superb form early on this season and displayed solid speed at Coonabarabran, however a crash while battling for the lead in moto two saw him suffer ligament damage to his left wrist.

Now facing up to three months on the sidelines and out of championship contention, the Scotsman says that the injury is simply a racing incident and one that couldn’t be avoided when a mistake is made while putting in 100 percent.

“Obviously this is a set back,” Mackenzie stated. “I’ve been riding well so far this year. I don’t have a bad conscious about getting injured because I was trying my best in the race.

“I was in second place and going for the win, leaving nothing on the table. These things happen, I didn’t crash through lack of effort or speed, I just got caught out.

“I’m going to take a couple of weeks to let the pain and swelling from the surgery subside before starting my training again.”

Surgery to repair Mackenzie’s injured wrist last Friday was successful with the extent of the injury not as serious as first presumed.

Kawasaki announced on Monday that Queenslander Dylan Peterson will ride in place of Mackenzie during the MX Nationals.
