Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing’s Kirk Gibbs rode through the pain and used consistency to take the MX2 class win at round one of the Monster Energy MX Nationals at Conondale.

Gibbs entered Conondale with a suspected fractured scaphoid which occured just two weeks ago, resulting in the South Australian having to ride with a wrist brace and push through the pain on the rough and high speed circuit.

Gibbs was able to lay down 2-5-1 results, winning by just one-point over Carlton Dry Honda Thor’s Ford Dale.

“My plan today was nothing more to land inside the top five every race and ensure I didn’t damage my wrist any more so to win today is amazing,” said Gibbs.

“The bike worked perfectly all day and with myself and Luke [Styke] both on the podium it shows how hard everyone at Serco has been working.”

Gibbs leads the points chase over Ford Dale and teammate Luke Styke heading into round two, 14-15 April at Coonabarabran, NSW.
