The Go: Outdoor Anticipation

MotoOnline’s Alex Gobert looks ahead to the Monster Energy MX Nationals, from an online perspective.

Man, it’s been a long off-season. Jay Marmont’s win in the Brisbane Supercross finale seems like an eternity ago, but luckily for us, just two weeks remain until the gates drop on the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals season opener.

For MotoOnline it means an opportunity to catch more content, because the reality is, we’ve been going from day to day in order to provide the best coverage of Aussie motocross anywhere. It’s an enjoyable task, but admittedly tricky at times as we await the domestic racing season.

The big news we are waiting on right now is the future of Ben Townley. Will he or won’t he be at Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing this season, as planned? Sources worldwide say he’s going to TwoTwo, but nobody knows for sure. It’ll be a shame to see him go, but if he does, he’s joining an Aussie team so we’ll be sure to count him as one of our own either way!

The Australian outdoors are just around the corner. We can't wait for the fun to begin!

Jay Marmont has been under an injury cloud lately, with rumours escalating about an injury that he suffered during a team photo shoot. I’m good friends with Jay as many know, but he’s remaining tight-lipped on the subject, even to me! The funny thing is in all of this, most people ring me to confirm if rumours are true or false – I run a website, I’m supposed to know everything, but that’s not always the case!

Edit: I should add though, from what I do know, the speculation that Jay is out with an ACL injury are false and he will be at round one without a doubt. There have been all sorts of rumours floating around about this over the weekend!

It’s a fun situation from this end though, being respectful of people involved in the industry, but still doing my best to offer world class news and features without any agenda apart from the love of the sport. We have to grab it all with both hands, because the reality is, the internet is the face of Australian Motocross on a global scale.

We have a lot planned for the final fortnight in the lead-up to the outdoors, which I personally can’t wait for, and then after that, it’s all systems go for a huge year ahead. News, feature stories, images and films are all locked in with the right people in place to help steer the ship, so right now we’re like everybody else in the sport, just waiting for round one.

Personally, I can’t wait, and after a breakthrough season last year, expect a more refined program on our end that will hopefully increase your entertainment and knowledge during the year. The 30-second board has almost been raised!
