Promoters emerge in race for Australian Supercross rights

Two promotional companies have emerged in the race to become Australian Supercross Championship promoter in 2012.

The future of Australian Supercross continues to be discussed behind closed doors.

Two promotional companies have emerged in the race to become Australian Supercross Championship promoter in 2012 and potentially beyond.

The series remains uncertain since Global Action Sports last month announced it’d be pulling out of the sport, effectively spelling the end of the Super X series, which was introduced in 2008.

Motorcycling Australia immediately called for expressions of interest from potential promoters on 15 February, with the closing date set for 24 February.

According to industry sources, it’s now become clear that International Entertainment Group, which currently promotes Australian Superbikes, as well as Exhibitions and Trade Fairs, are two companies who have expressed interest in hosting the series.

IEG is a division of Yarrive Konsky’s group, which also runs the Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing team in Australian motocross.

ETF is the company behind the Sydney Motorcycle Show and Australian Motorcycle Expo, with Mark Petersen the event manager of those important events within the industry.

MotoOnline.com.au has contacted both parties during the past week, yet neither was willing to comment on the record.

Current Australian Motocross promoter Kevin Williams, of Williams Event Management, has already confirmed that WEM will not place a bid for the supercross series rights.

Further news on the developing story is expected to be officially released within the next month.
