As Australia’s only ever Motocross World Champion (in the 85cc juniors back in 2009), Jay Wilson has quite a big following considering last year was his rookie season in the Under 19s.
For this year he’ll take over Errol Willis’ championship-winning Under 19s seat at Raceline Pirelli Suzuki and enter the MX Nationals as a title favourite, so we decided to quiz him on a number of topics to learn more about him off the track.

Greatest moment of your career?
Winning the world titles in 2009 at Taupo, NZ
Toughest race ever?
Second moto at the world titles, me and the Italian rider banging ’bars every corner for about 10 laps
Long-term goal?
Go to Europe, win another world title and then head to America and win some titles over there
Favourite track?
Moree, NSW/Taupo, NZ
If you weren’t a racer, you would be?
I haven’t done a whole lot other then motocross since I was about 10, but I really enjoy wakeboarding in the off-season
Arch-rival?
Past couple of years Jacob Wright and myself have had some great racing, with Jacob stepping up in class I’m sure there will be plenty of guys in the 19s to take his place
Greatest inspiration?
Chad Reed
Superstitions?
Probably breaking in a new helmet, that’s about it
Training methods?
On bike training is the most important part, but I also do a lot of cycling, gym work and surf ski
Goal for 2012?
Stay healthy and fit, win the Under 19s motocross/supercross championships
