South African Tyla Rattray was injured in Oakland last weekend, suffering a concussion and fracture of his C7 vertebra during the West Coast Lites AMA Supercross heat race.

Rattray came into the weekend sitting third in the points, only three points behind the leader. He knew to reclaim the red plate he was going to have to push, but the end result wasn’t what he was looking for.

The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider attempted to dial in the track during practice, but couldn’t get into a rhythm and qualified in 10th position.

In the heat race, he crashed while trying to come through the pack and was injured, knocking him out of the competition for the night.

Later, Rattray said this via his Twitter account @TylaRattray: “Thanks for the kind Tweets guys! Got a little fracture on my C7 and also knocked myself out for a while. But I’ll be back.”

It’s expected that Rattray could be out for four to six weeks, ending his hopes of winning a supercross title for 2012.
