MX Nationals categories to be re-branded during 2012 season

Williams Event Management's Kevin Williams has confirmed that WEM is looking to re-brand the categories of the Australian Motocross Championship in 2012.

The premier class in the MX Nationals will be re-branded MX1 (formerly Pro Open) in 2012.

Williams Event Management’s Kevin Williams has confirmed that WEM is looking to re-brand the categories of the Australian Motocross Championship in 2012.

Various posts on the MX Nationals Twitter and Facebook social networking sites have referred to the classes as MX1 (Pro Open) or MX2 (Pro Lites) recently, with Williams confirming that it’s part of a global strategy.

“We are leaning toward the MX1 and MX2 branding in a bid to enhance global recognition,” Williams explained to MotoOnline.com.au.

“Aligning ourselves with what many championships are called worldwide will increase relevance for the series overseas – everybody knows that MX1 bikes are 450s and MX2 are 250s.

“It’s a slow, progressive movement, but one that we will continue to transfer throughout 2012.”

It’s expected that the Under 19s category could be re-branded MXD, for MX Development in the new year.

The 2012 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will commence at Conondale in Queensland on 1 April.
