Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Luke Styke remains satisfied with third in the 2011 Monster Energy Super X Lites series, despite dropping one position at Ipswich’s final round of the season.

Styke made the most of a guest ride with the factory Yamaha Lites team, his performance netting him a full time seat with the Queensland-based team for 2012.

Fifth place in the final round wasn’t the highlight of the season for the 19-year-old, but he’s happy with how the season turned out.

“I just couldn’t seem to get a good feel for the track in the final and didn’t flow as I would have liked,” he reflected. “The dirt had gone really hard pack and the bike was moving around a lot and that’s not usually the way I ride.

“I had a real opportunity to get second for the championship tonight but if someone had of told me at the start of the season I would finish third, then I probably would have taken it, so I can’t be too disappointed.

“One thing it has done for me is give me confidence that with the right bike and the right team behind me, I can run up the front so thanks to Serco Yamaha for giving me that opportunity.”

Styke finished on the podium at both the Melbourne and Campbelltown rounds of the Super X series.
