Australia's Reed takes victory at Genoa Supercross in Italy

Australia's Chad Reed raced and won in Italy over the weekend at Genoa.

Australia’s Chad Reed has taken out Italy’s Genoa Supercross after finishing the two moto’s second and first.

The event, which was Reeds first race in 10 weeks, also marked the first event for newly appointed technical director Mike Gosselaar under the TwoTwo Motorsports banner.

Reed won his heat race but a first turn melee in the opening 15-lap final left him back in the pack. He thrilled the Italian crowd, coming through the field to second.

Reed won the final 15-lap race ahead of race one winner Justin Barcia and was awarded the overall.

“I had a great time out there,” Reed said. “It was good to get a couple of races under my belt and see where I am at with my preparations for 2012.

“The track was tight so it was important to get good starts. I had a crash in the first race but still came through to second.

“As a team we learnt a lot and it will definitely help our preparations for 2012,” Reed added.

Reed has now returned to the United States to continue testing ahead of the opening round of the 2012 AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday, 7 January.
