Multiple-time national motocross and supercross champion Jay Marmont has given his approval upon return to the traditional race formats at this weekend’s Monster Energy Super X season finale.

The Ipswich round in Queensland will see the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes contest 20-lap and 15-lap main events respectively, marking the first traditional main events in the series since 2008 in the premier class.

Marmont leads the Pro Open title chase by five points entering Saturday’s fifth and final round, and the CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha rider has revealed that he’s excited to battle for the title over the 20-lap duration.

“The championship is one thing, but what really excites me this weekend is that we are going to have a full length 20-lap main event for the first time in a long while,” Marmont admitted.

“The other formats are fun, but 20 laps going wide-open with the best in the country is what it’s all about.

“In my mind, if I race the way I have in the previous few rounds, then the championship will take care of itself.”

If Marmont manages to win the series this weekend, it will be his first supercross title since going back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.
