Sydney podium puts Simmonds back in charge of Super X

JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds reclaimed the red plate as Pro Open points leader in Monster Energy Super X on Saturday night, a podium result enough to take over at the top with two rounds remaining.

Simmonds who continued to prove his potential for JDR Motorex KTM aboard the 450 SX-F, finishing third overall with a consistent run of 4-3-4 results in the Triple Header main event.

This weekend’s Maitland round will mark the second round that Simmonds has worn the red plates, but he’s taking it one round at a time at this point.

“Tonight was a battle, but it’s nice to have that red plate again in the lead of the series,” 19-year-old Simmonds commented.

“I feel really good on the bike and I’m glad tonight was dry, so we’ll keep working and move onto the next two rounds – see what we can do!”

Bourke resident Simmonds reclaimed the championship lead in the Opens by a single point, returning to the podium for the first time since his triumphant opening round win.

Simmonds’ teammates endured a difficult night, with Ryan Marmont 10th aboard the 350 SX-F after a number of mishaps while battling for position, while the luckless Dan Reardon was credited 16th despite technical problems hindering his night.
